1. Sparks Lane
Sparks Lane is a gravel road that cuts across the eastern side of Cades Cove. It connects the north and south portions of Cades Cove Loop Road. Sparks Lane is near the 0.9-mile mark of the loop near the Primitive Baptist Church. As for parking, there is a parking area near Abrams Creek that allows visitors to walk to Sparks Lane. This area embodies the classic Cades Cove landscape with the gravel road, fences, and overhanging trees. Be an early bird to take advantage of the vibrant light from the sunrise.
2. Abrams Falls
You can take photos at Abrams Falls too! Keep in mind that this spot requires a hike, so dress accordingly. It is 5 miles roundtrip, and you will reach the waterfall around 2.6 miles from the trailhead. The waterfall is 25 feet tall; it is a stunning scene to watch the water crash along the rocks. Take some beautiful photos with it behind you. Refrain from climbing on the rocks, as they are slippery.
3. Methodist Church
Another photogenic spot for Cades Cove Scenic Loop photos is the area around the Methodist Church. It is an easy stop along the loop. The outside has a lot of open fields with mountain scenery. It provides a clean background for portraits of large groups. Another option is to go inside the church. Get some shots in the rows of wood pews or stand at the front behind the preacher’s stand.
4. John Oliver Cabin
If you like the look of historical structures, get some more shots at the John Oliver Cabin for some beautiful Cades Cove pictures. A great spot for a photo is in front of the old cabin fence. There is also the surrounding meadow and tall trees that make for a good backdrop as well! Want more of the rustic house in your photo? You can step onto the front porch. Use caution around historical structures, as some of the material is very old. The National Park Service works hard to preserve these structures.
5. Carter Shields Cabin
Another spot for Cades Cove photos is the Carter Shields Cabin. This is the last historical structure on the loop road. Will Sparks built the cabin around 1880, and it has become one of the most photographed spots in the park. You can take photos around the cabin or in the forest clearing in the back. It has a small stream and many trees. This spot is ideal for smaller group photo opportunities, such as an engagement shoot.
